Pura Group’s journey began in 1908, with a modest family-owned letterpress shop known as Ong Djing Tjong Electrische Drukkerij. In 1970, at only 15 years old, Jacobus Busono—the third-generation heir—dared to look beyond the family’s legacy. He envisioned building a modern industrial powerhouse that could shape Indonesia’s future economy.
To realize this, Jacobus pursued higher education in Europe, returning in 1960 armed with both knowledge and ambition. He soon rebranded the company as Pusaka Raya, combining the words Pusaka (a treasured family inheritance) and Raya (grandeur)—a name that embodied the grand legacy he was determined to build.
From just 35 employees, Jacobus transformed the business into Pura Group, a trusted name in innovation and quality. By 1990, Pura had six production divisions and 7,000 employees. By 2020, it had grown to include 30 business units and more than 15,000 professionals, evolving into a world-class integrated enterprise.

In recognition of this enduring impact, Jacobus was awarded the Bintang Mahaputera Naraya in August 2021—one of the highest honors from the President of Indonesia—affirming his role as an industrial visionary who led with humility, integrity, and unwavering national spirit.
